Ashes | Twitter in uproar as Archer puts behind Gabba humiliation with brilliant burst after Lunch

Rarely has it been a good idea in cricket history to rile up a bowler capable of touching 150 clicks. Perhaps it is no issue for the generational talent that is Steve Smith as he proved at the Gabba, but for his lesser compatriots a fired up Jofra Archer proved to be too much in Adelaide.

‌Australia won the toss for the third successive time on Tuesday morning and chose to bat first under the belting Adelaide sun with an eye on batting England out of the Ashes. The strategy seemed to be paying off early as Brydon Carse struggled for rhythm with the new ball and was duly dispatched all around the ground by openers Travis Head and Jake Weatherald, the duo racing past 30 within the first eight overs. However, Jofra Archer at the other end kept the duo on their toes, and ultimately delivered the first breakthrough with a 149 clicks bumper to Weatherald that was sheepishly top-edged to the keeper. Carse piled on top five balls later when a Zak Crawley blinder dispatched Head to leave Australia on 33/2, whereafter Marnus Labuschagne and Usman Khawaja stabilized proceedings with a steady 61-run stand through to Lunch. Little could they have imagined what was in store when play resumed.

Archer took the ball again immediately after the break and had Labuschagne in front of him on 19. The Englishman went to his trademark slightly short-of-a-length first-up angling in to the right-hander, firing full cylinders after some reast for his weary legs. The pace was enough to startle Labuschagne as he tried to pull the ball away but was only halfway through his shot when the red cherry struck his willow and looped up towards short midwicket for a sitter to Carse. England were ecstatic, but walking in next was Cameron Green fresh off being bought for INR 25.20 crores in the Indian Premier League auction the previous evening. Archer was far from detterred though as he aimed straight for the all-rounder's head who ducked out of the way, but it was enough to set him deep in the crease expecting another missile climbing up at him. However, Archer capitalized by returning to length angling into Green's pads, who with frozen feet simply prodded at the Kookaburra in hope. The ball propped up again towards midwicket, but this time significantly to the right of Carse and at a much greater speed. However, the English quick was more than up to it as he put in a sprawling dive to complete the dismissal, and suddenly leave the Aussies reeling at 94/4.

Archer was pumped up with the success and allowed himself a huge grin to celebrate, much to Twitterati's joy.

Sports is funny business -- one minute a career can feel over and the next it'll be heralded as the Saviour himself. Brydon Carse was headed for doom after an awry start to the third Test, until a Zak Crawley miracle forced another seemingly doomed man in Usman Khawaja to walk in with England ahead.
