IND vs SA | Twitter in awe as Pommie Mbangwa channels inner astrologer to foresee De Kock’s dismissal

We have often seen batters getting dismissed by the commentator curse, but Pommie Mbangwa pulled off a different angle to end Quinton de Kock’s stay in the first T20I. The commentator showed great insight to predict the South African opener’s end with Arshdeep Singh striking in the very next ball.

‌India were looking down the barrel after South Africa put them in during the first T20I at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on Tuesday. The home side lost four wickets inside 12 overs to be placed at 78, with Hardik Pandya joining Axar Patel in the middle.

The all-rounder, who was returning from injury, showed intent to smash a 25-ball half-century to take India to a challenging 175/6 in their allotted 20 overs. He smashed six fours and four sixes, including a stunning maximum that brought up his fifty, to remain unbeaten on 59 off 28 balls.

And Arshdeep, as he is so often used to, provided India the perfect start with the new ball, dismissing Quinton de Kock in just the second ball of the innings. But more than the wicket, Pommie Mbangwa’s classic commentary caught the eye of the cricketing world.

Just after the first ball, the former Zimbabwe cricketer rightly called that the left-arm seamer is getting the ball to shape away from the left-hander. He further went on to predict that the pacer may bring into play the two slips he was provided by skipper Suryakumar Yadav.

And in the next ball, the Punjab Kings pacer came up with the perfect delivery that left De Kock late, and the batter ended up edging it to Abhishek Sharma at second slip. Mbangwa’s co-commentator Deep Dasgupta was in awe, crediting his partner for rightly calling the dismissal.

Twitter was in awe as Arshdeep continued to dominate the wicketkeeper-batter with four dismissals for just 21 runs. However, Mbangwa reminded the cricketing world of Ricky Ponting, who had called out Prithvi Shaw’s dismissal in a similar way.
