Tilak Varma gave Matthew Breetzke the scare of his life during the third and final ODI against South Africa in Visakhapatnam. The Mumbai Indians player accidentally stopped in between his action to find the Proteas out of his crease before laughing at him and walking back to his mark.

‌After losing Ryan Rickelton in the first over of the third ODI, South Africa did well to come back against India at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on Saturday. Quinton de Kock led the recovery, hitting five sixes and six fours during his 63-ball 76, as the Proteas reached 130/2 at the end of 23 overs.

He added 113 runs with Temba Bavuma before the visitors’ skipper fell to Ravindra Jadeja for 48. New batter Matthew Breetzke was just settling in when Tilak Varma gave him a scare of his life in his second over.

Just as he was about to deliver the third ball of the 23rd over, the part-time off-spinner stopped in between his action. Breetzke, who was at the non-striker end, realised that the bowler had not delivered before quickly scrambling back to the crease.

Tilak and the umpire were in splits as he explained to the batter that he had no intention to run him out, and he stopped due to some issue with the field. Twitter, however, thought Tilak was trying to hold the spirit of the game high before flooding the social media platform with appreciation notes.
