The Punjab Kings defeated the Lucknow Super Giants by eight wickets in their second game of the 2025 IPL. Prabhsimran Singh and Shreyas Iyer’s fifties backed their brilliant bowling, highlighted by an Arshdeep Singh three-fer as Lucknow Super Giants faced defeat in their first home game.

The decision to field first after winning the toss on a red soil track turned out rosy for Shreyas Iyer when Arshdeep Singh and Lockie Ferguson bowled well enough to pick a couple of wickets together within the fourth over. Rishabh Pant’s lean patch in the season worsened after Glenn Maxwell worked as a good match-up against him in the fifth over. Following a 39-run powerplay, Nicholas Pooran and Ayush Badoni orchestrated a fifty-run stand before  Yuzvendra Chahal outwitted the southpaw in the twelfth over. David Miller, in the presence of a struggling Ayush Badoni, took the total past the hundred-run. Marco Jansen, in his third over, outsmarted Miller as LSG’s score reflected 125/5 in 16 overs. Subsequently, Abdul Samad’s 12-ball 27 steered them to 171/7 in 20 overs.

In reply, the Kings got off to a flying start, courtesy of  Prabhsimran Singh’s gung-ho approach against the pacers. Although Digvesh Rathi removed Priyansh Arya with a quirky send-off in the third over, the wicketkeeper-batter ensured that the Kings fetched 62 runs inside the powerplay. Be it the spinners ot the pacers, Prabhsimran ripped them apart with a blend of fancy and orthodox strokes before departing for a 34-ball 69. With 110 runs on the board by the tenth over, Shreyas Iyer and Nehal Wadhera nurdled around to bring it down to 45 required off the last seven overs. It was just a matter of time before a series of lusty strokes from the pair curtailed the equation to 17 off 28 balls. Right after, Wadhera clobbered a couple of big sixes and a four to equal the equation, making for the Punjab skipper to hit the finishing runs.
