Irani Trophy | Twitter reacts to Dayal capitalising on Rahane’s rare dropped dolly with a humongous six

When luck gives you a chance, grab it with both hands and make the most out of it. Uttar Pradesh’s Yash Dayal did not fail to exemplify the above statement as he smoked a huge six after being dropped by Ajinkya Rahane at the slip cordon on the fourth day of the Irani Trophy in Lucknow.

Following the conclusion of a 165-run fifth-wicket partnership between Dhruv Jurel and Abhimanyu Easwaran, the Rest of India side fell like nine pins with the lower middle order failing to withstand the Mumbai attack. With Easwaran falling for 191 in the 103rd over, Manav Suthar followed back to the hut in a space of 28 balls, making way for Yash Dayal at No. 9. The right-handed batter was almost outdone early in his innings if not for a dropped catch at first slip before capitalising on it perfectly.

Having faced two dots in as many balls faced, Dayal looked to tap on a fuller loopy delivery outside the stumps on the first ball of the 110th over. However, he nicked it towards first slip where skipper Rahane - one of the best fielders at the position - failed to grab the red cherry. Realising a close shave, Dayal capitalised on a fuller one in the slot by pumelling it off the middle of the bat over deep mid-wicket for a gigantic maximum. Although he was out in the next delivery, Rahane’s dropped catch followed by Dayal’s only six in the innings caught the attention of the mass on social media.
