IPL 2024 | Twitter and Ricky Ponting console fuming Rishabh Pant after tame dismissal

A player returning to the biggest stage after a long injury layoff often tries to make their return memorable. Rishabh Pant would have wanted to do the same in Mullanpur but failure to do so resulted in frustration for the DC skipper, who had to be consoled by head coach Ricky Ponting.

Losing the toss, Delhi were handed the chance to set a target against Punjab Kings in the first day game of IPL 2024. Delhi got off to a perfect start accumulating 74 runs for the loss of two wickets by the end of the eighth over. While David Warner departed on the last ball of the eighth over, there was a sense of excitement with Rishabh Pant playing competitive cricket for the first time in 454 days.

The DC skipper had a slow outing scoring just four runs off his first six deliveries. Such was the struggle that his first boundary came courtesy of Harshal Patel dropping a sitter at deep midwicket. A drive against Harshal ended up crossing the ropes in the 13th over but a couple of balls later, Pant had to depart after mis-hitting a slower bouncer.

What happened after that caught the attention of social media as the Indian star was seen venting his frustration in the dugout. What was heartwarming was the fact that his head coach was seen consoling Pant and Twitter soon followed suit.

Why?

Good to see him back!

Ponting doesn't go mad here!

Yeah!

Really missed a lot!

He deserves it!

Massive respect!

That was real quick!
