As per an ANI report, a BCCI source has confirmed that Indian skipper Virat Kohli has been declared fit for India's World Cup opener against South Africa on June 5 in Southampton. Kohli suffered a minor injury to his thumb during the catching session and looked in some discomfort.

Virat Kohli has been given the green light and is expected to be hundred per cent fit for India’s World Cup opener on Wednesday against the Proteas. Widely considered as one of the greatest ever white-ball players in the history of the game, Kohli suffered a blow on Saturday during a catching session when the ball struck his thumb. He seemed to be in pain and the team physio immediately attended to it, using a spray to try to relieve some of the suffering.

However, in a recent development, a BCCI source reportedly told ANI that there was no cause for concern as Kohli had participated completely in the team’s recent training session and had even batted in the nets.

Kohli has been in sensational form and has had a glorious career so far having nearly 11,000 ODI runs to his name at an astonishing average of 59.6, and this will be his first World Cup as the captain of the Indian national team.

The captain is expected to play a crucial role and lead from the front as the Men in Blue kick start their campaign at Hampshire Bowl, Southampton in what would be South Africa’s third match of the tournament.
