Aaron Finch-led Australia cricket team have been fined for maintaining a slow overrate during the opening T20I win against India in Brisbane which they won by a narrow margin of just four runs. The charge was levelled by on-field umpires Simon Fry and Paul Wilson and the third umpire as well.

The Australian cricket team has been fined for maintaining a slow overrate during the first T20I match against India. In a delayed announcement by the ICC, all the players in the Australian team have been fined 10 per cent of their match fee while skipper Aaron Finch has been fined twice that amount.

The fine on the Aussies was implemented by match referee Jeff Crowe after Australia were found one over short of their target when time allowance was taken into consideration, which is in accordance with Article 2.5.1 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Players Support Personnel, which pertains to minor over-rate offences. The charge was approved by on-field umpires Simon Fry and Paul Wilson, along with third umpire Gerard Abood and fourth umpire Shawn Craig as well.

Finch pleaded guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction. Hence, there was no requirement of a formal hearing. If Australia are found guilty of another minor over-rate offence in the next 12 months with Finch as the captain of the team, the latter will face suspension.

Australia won the opening game by four runs (DLS method), while the second match at the MCG was abandoned on Friday due to bad weather conditions after the first innings.
