Bangladesh wicketkeeper Liton Das exhibited brilliant anticipation and movement to dismiss a well-settled Temba Bamuva behind the stumps, in the Tigers’ first Test against South Africa. In a game, where Bangladesh were second best at everything, Das produced a moment to cherish for the visitors.

The ability to read a batsman’s mind is what differentiates a great wicketkeeper from a good wicketkeeper, and 22-year-old Liton Das has been showing such instincts quite early in his career. In the first Test against South Africa, the boy from Dinajpur produced one such moment of brilliance by dismissing Temba Bamuva behind the stumps with some breath-taking skills.

South Africa were comfortably leading by 393 runs after Bangladesh saw themselves getting all out for 310 in the first innings, and with Bamuva well-settled at 71, the Proteas were looking to set yet another mammoth target. With orders from the dressing room to get things moving, Bamuva attempted a paddle-sweep off Mominul Haque’s bowl, which looked a very calculated risk for the batsmen. But, Das was way ahead of the batsman in his vision and despite the ball hitting the middle of the bat, the keeper’s put in dive to his left side and was able to pull off a one handedworldie.

The batsman was all praise for the young wicketkeeper after the game. He said, “He had a really good day with the gloves. I don't think it's easy keeping on that kind of wicket where there is some variable bounce, especially with the spin. He can hold his head high for what he did with the gloves."

Though Bangladesh lost the game by a huge 333-run margin, their ongoing search for a potential alternative for Mushfiqur Rahim surely got a huge boost. They have previously tried Nurul Hasan in the New Zealand tour, but Das looks a bright prospect.

It is rare to see batters repeat the mode of dismissals from their previous outing, and Zak Crawley nearly made that unique list in the second Test against Australia in Brisbane. The England opener played an uppish drive off Mitchell Starc as the ball raced past the outstretched hand of the pacer.
