Sri Lanka offers to host bilateral series between India and Pakistan

The PCB had earlier hit out at the BCCI for not keeping their word on playing Pakistan in a bilateral series despite signing a deal to do so and had even sent their counterparts a legal notice asking them to explain their failure. However, the BCCI responded by saying that the deal signed was not binding and that they needed the Indian Government’s permission to play Pakistan.

And now, the Sri Lanka Cricket President Thilanga Sumathipala has discussed the issue with the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a bid to resolve the same.

The Pakistan Observer reported Sumathipala as saying, “I met Mr. Narendra Modi at BMICH (Bandarnayaka Memorial International Conference Hall) and conveyed the message to him to consider playing against Pakistan.”   

As of now, India and Pakistan only face off against each other in ICC events, with their upcoming ICC Champions Trophy on June 4th being a highly anticipated one. However, Sumathipala has expressed his concerns over the fact that the two nations don’t meet more often, saying, “Not only Pakistan is suffering. India is losing when Pakistan is not playing India as much as Pakistan is losing if India is not playing them. I have requested Mr. Modi either to allow both play in Dubai or in Sri Lanka.”

Finally, despite making the suggestion the SLC President also clarified,  “There is no immediate plan this year to play against Pakistan in Pakistan.”
