Suni Gavaskar : Australia are taking out their frustration by targeting Kohli

Gavaskar defended Kohli in the wake of heavy recent Aussie criticism by suggesting that the Australians were venting out their frustration at Kohli adding that no heed should be paid to their actions.

“We should not give any importance to these guys, they are frustrated and that is why they are taking it out on Virat Kohli,” Gavaskar told NDTV in an interview.

The relations between the two teams took a negative turn when Steve Smith was caught looking to his dressing room for advice on whether to opt for a DRS decision, during the second Test in Bangalore. Smith’s actions were brought to umpire Nigel Long’s notice by Kohli and the latter denied the Aussie captain a review. As the finger-pointing and name-calling spiraled out of control, the ICC intervened and called a truce between the BCCI and CA, but still the shadow of the incident continued to hover over the remainder of the series.   

“After the brain fade incident, Australia have used 12 referrals and got just one right. I think they got seven out of 16 spot-on before the brain fade controversy. I’m not sure of exact number. But you need to look at this a lot more closely,” he added.
