Watch: MS Dhoni’s perfect call for DRS to dismiss Eoin Morgan

Former Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni made a perfect call for a DRS after umpire Nandan dismissed Hardik Pandya’s appeal for an edge off Eoin Morgan’s bat. Skipper Virat Kohli stayed true to his words and consulted Dhoni before officially asking for the review.

Dhoni may have stepped down from the captaincy responsibility, but his decision-making is sharp as ever. This was in full view in the first One-day international match against England at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.

Trying to steer a shortish delivery of Hardik Pandya, English skipper Eoin Morgan got a faint edge off the blade which was easily pouched by wicket-keeper Dhoni. But Indian umpire Nandan, who was at the business end at the time of appeal, declined Dhoni’s appeal and ruled Morgan not-out. But a convinced Dhoni walked up to the middle to celebrate the wicket and even signaled ‘T’, before Kohli asking for it formally.

Kohli, who in the press-conference yesterday had said he would take Dhoni's suggestion before taking any DRS review, asked Dhoni for his suggestion. Once Dhoni signaled him, Kohli immediately went down.

Third Umpire Ruchira Palliyaguruge checked the replay with the Snickometer and Ultra-edge technology, before overturning the on-field decision.

Morgan had scored 28 runs from 26 deliveries. England ended their innings on 350 runs in the first innings.
