Reports | BCCI objects Pakistan hosting Asian Cricket Council event

Since the year 2009, when militants had attacked the Sri Lankan cricket team bus in Lahore, international teams have been more than hesitant to tour Pakistan. It was only in 2015 that Zimbabwe had agreed to tour the country for a limited-over series, but it helped little to change the other Test-playing nations' mindset to visit Pakistan.

However, Pakistan Cricket Board has come a long way since then and the perspective has gradually changed. After ICC’s World XI visited Lahore for a T20I in September earlier this year, Sri Lanka cricket team also followed suit as they played the last T20I match of the series at Gaddafi Stadium in October earlier this year.

In the process of improving the cricket situation in the country, Pakistan has now got the chance to host the next Asian Emerging Nations Cup. They got the rights of hosting the six-nation tournament at the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting in Lahore on October 29 this year, in which BCCI didn’t take part. And as per TOI’s report, it is learned that BCCI didn’t like the decision and has registered an objection at the recently organized ACC meeting in Dubai.

BCCI’s argument was that it was not consulted before announcing the venue for the tournament in which India is also supposed to participate. Considering the relationship between two countries, it will be interesting to see how ACC is going to handle this issue.
