After bats breaking on regular occasions in Big Bash, the IPL has seen its first willow crumble. Not only did Manoj Tiwary break his bat in two during the match against Gujarat Lions, the 31-year-old then, for reasons unknown, put in a full-length dive with just the handle in his gloves.
The hilarious incident occurred in the 19th over of the match between Rising Pune Supergiant and Gujarat Lions, with Ankit Sharma bowling to Tiwary. With just nine balls left in the innings, Tiwary, who was batting on 29 off 23 balls, attempted to hit a full delivery towards deep midwicket. The ball was pitched higher than what the batsman expected and the bat just gave way.
But that wasn't the funniest part of the incident. With the ball not connecting with the bet well, the ball did not travel a huge distance and ended up going to midwicket. The batsmen saw the opportunity of nicking an extra run and took it. But the with ball reaching Andrew Tye, Tiwary hilariously put in a full-length dive even though he barely had any wood left on his bat to make a difference.
Eventually, Pune finished their innings with a score of 171/8 as Tye gave away just four runs in the last over.
