As many as 15 companies, including Amazon, Star India, Sony Pictures, and Reliance Jio, have picked up the tender documents for the broadcast and digital rights of the IPL for the cycle starting in 2018. Bid submission close on Oct 25, with the tenders to be opened on the same day at the BCCI HQ.

The tender documents have been on sale for three weeks now. American giants Amazon had picked up the tender last month while the likes of Star India and their arch-rivals in the sub-continent, Sony Pictures, are also in the fray, according to a report in the Times of India.

Sony currently hold the broadcast rights, and have been arguing with the BCCI that the existing contract grants them the first right of refusal.

The latest entrants are Reliance Jio, although they are not the only telecom company looking to invest in the IPL. A consortium of Chinese telecom companies are also in the running, according to an unnamed source.

“Companies like LeEco and Xiaomi could find the IPL the best way to make a splash in the Indian markets. But bidding in the Indian markets will require serious expertise and that's where agencies could play a role," the source told the Times of India.
