Kings XI and Australia batsman Glenn Maxwell has been ruled out of the rest of the IPL with a side strain. The blow, however, would make little difference to a Kings XI side that is already out of contention for the play-offs with only four wins off 12 matches, and are seventh in the table.

"Glenn reported increasing soreness in his left abdomen area following last night's (Sunday's) match and as such a decision was made for him to return home for further assessment and treatment ahead of the West Indies tour.

"From the information we have so far, the injury doesn't appear to be something that will prevent Glenn from participating in this tour, but we are keen to give him the necessary time to recover before departing to the West Indies at the end of this month," Australia's Support Team Physiotherapist, David Beakley told cricbuzz.

Maxwell, who has had prolific seasons in the IPL before, has been in terrible form this time with just 179 runs off 11 matches.

The batsman would hope to recover in time for the national team's tri-series in the West Indies.
