Delhi Test in jeopardy as CBI look to probe DDCA

According to domestic media, DDCA is being investigated by the CBI as a preliminary inquiry over several counts that include illegal occupation of government land in the form of ground and stadium without a proper lease, sub-leasing of corporate boxes to private companies, passing of fake bills and misappropriation of public money.

DDCA president Sneh Bansal is reportedly also under investigation for ‘round-tripping’ Rs. 1.55 crore. Round-tripping involves selling of unused assets of a company to another company and buying it back right away at the same price to show more number of transactions to inflate profits and evade tax.

According to reports, the association's auditors Sanjay Bharadwaj & Co. are also being monitored for passing of sham accounts and a case has already been registered against them in local courts.

Indian media reported that former Indian cricketer Kirti Azad had filed an FIR in 2014 relating to age-fudging in group-level cricket, following which the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had barred 22 cricketers from the state from taking part in tournaments as an inquiry was launched into the misdemeanors.

“I had filed FIRs against 12 cricketers. In fact, I got their original birth certificates from MCD and had sent it to BCCI. We all know that DDCA is a den of legalized corruption,” the former Delhi skipper was quoted as saying.

The Delhi government has slapped DDCA with a notice of Rs 24 crore for evading entertainment tax over the last few years by under-pricing ticket at several stands. According to reports, the DDCA will have to deposit the tax immediately to be able to host the Test in December. 

Three separate teams turned up for the Delhi state trails at the start of this year’s Ranji Trophy season.
